Dance Instruction

With the right amount of dance instruction, children and adults can learn to perform different styles of dance with confidence. Dance opens up a world of benefits for both mind and body. Children and adults can experience positive changes in their lives through dance instruction.

Healthy Bodies

Dancing helps to promote healthy, active lifestyles that can have major benefits on both the mind and the body. Our minds and bodies work together each day to keep us moving so we can complete our day to day tasks. Being in good health helps us to feel great and have more energy to get things done. Through dance, children and adults learn to stretch and exercise their bodies in ways that help to promote weight management, blood circulation and muscle development. Young children will gain a better awareness of their bodies and develop a strong sense of balance. Faster reflexes and extended flexibility can also be seen in those who have taken dance instruction.

For adults, dance instruction in any genre of dance can help ward off cardiovascular disease and other heart complications. Cardiovascular disease accounts for over 36 percent of deaths within the United States every year. The onset of cardiovascular disease can come from poor diet choices and a lack of exercise. By taking dance lessons in ballet, hip hop, tap or other dance genres, adults will practice healthy exercising throughout the week. Some dance studios hold classes in nutrition to help teach proper dieting and encourage balance between diet and exercise to help with weight management issues and to prevent heart disease.

Healthy Minds

Dance instruction is good for more than just building a strong physical body. It does wonders for the mind as well. Children and adults taking dance classes are pushed to use critical thinking skills and creativity no matter what style of dance they are performing. Not all dance needs to be structured or choreographed. Young children use their creative thinking skills in hip hop and rhythm classes to move their bodies to the music and develop movements that are unique and free flowing. This freedom of movement allows for the expansion of the imagination and allows children to learn about body rhythm and movement before challenging themselves in more structured dance genres like ballet.

Both children and adults can develop a strong sense of confidence while taking dance classes. Those who are shy or often embarrassed by performing in front of an audience will gain the positive influence they need to overcome that fear. Dancing also teaches persistence. Though you may fail the first time or not understand it from the very beginning, continued practice and persistence can help both children and adults to work hard to reach exponential levels of performance. Courage, confidence and persistence are the key to strong dance performance. Through dance instruction, children and adults will learn to take pride in themselves.
